Another nice little trick is that all knobs and pots send MidiCC and I have already mappen the play and stop button of the Multiclock to Abletons transport. MIDI sync from a DAW is typically pretty jittery due to the way MIDI is handled by modern computers. There are plenty of other little nifty functions and I have yet to figure out everything fully. I'm bored of having to then adjust delay in Ableton again. It would have been nice if the LFO was its own output without the clock functionality. ERM Multiclock USAMO Innerclock That even more expensive one I find with Ableton, I can get the timings to within a workable range, and that will be fine for a while, but one day I'll start it up and one thing is out by loads. One for the LFO and one for analog clock. A little negative point is, that I have to use up two of the four channels for my eurorack that way. I really dig the LFO for example and that it can be quantised to your projects BPM. It is a really nice creative tool to be able to shift, align and swing midi lanes individually and the multiclock has quite a few more tricks up its sleeve than I had initially thought. I also love how the multiclock does a lot more than just keeping things in sync. But that also works now and I am just really happy that I do not have to fuzz with this absurdly annoying topic anymore.

For me it was fairly easy to get it running the only thing I had to mess a bit with, was how to route the plugin in Ableton that I could still solo tracks wihtout soloing the audio clock. Okay so in short: It is AWESOME!įor the very first time I can have all of my gear play perfectly in sync and best of all it plays in sync everytime I hit the play button. Does the ERM have a simpler setup? I'd really love something that just works every time I fire up Ableton, after the initial setup, of course, and I'm happy to pay the price for something I can depend on every time.Haha funny that you ask because I just thought about writing a few words about it in here. Then, I have to adjust my routing in my interface so the audio from the plugin goes out to the USAMO, but not into any of my other outputs, main speakers, etc. Setting up the USAMO requires using the plugin, routing the MIDI out of the USAMO to the MIDI in of my interface, and running the whole audio test inside the plugin while tweaking the trim pot on the USAMO to get things just right.

While I'm doing the upgrade of my MIDI setup, I'm wondering if I could stand to upgrade my clocking also, and if the ERM Multiclock would be an easier to use and more intuitive solution.

Setting it up is always a process, and if I move my gear to use it live, take to a friends house, etc., I have to start the whole process of setting it up over again.

However, the USAMO and I have had a love/hate relationship over the last couple years and I find it to be a big pain in the ass sometimes. Currently, I use an USAMO to allow Ableton to be the master clock, and to output MIDI clock into my MIDI router and then send that to the various bits of hardware. ERM claims that the Midiclock is 50,000 times more accurate than the average DAW (a technical report, The Impact of Clock Jitter on MIDI Syncable DAWs, is available on the company’s website). Hello! I am upgrading my MIDI setup in my hybrid studio (Ableton, Hardware Synths, VST Synths, Sequencers, and Drum Machines, Eurorack Modular).
